So this thing gets picked up, this hurt gets deposited in the memory body, the etheric body, and then at the right time it enters the emotional body during a conversation. The person feels just a little bit on edge. They’re sitting there. The vibration is going down as people are being discussed. It keeps dropping all the time. And pretty soon it gets down into the level where the etheric shoots in this arrow, “You remember the time you were at this conference and they wouldn’t speak to you or they walked away from you?” Right. I do remember it, you say to yourself. Boom. The feelings rise up and something is said about this person that is not kind or complimentary. Cliques Wrap a “Barbed Wire Fence” around Themselves Now, the whole world lieth in this wickedness--all of them. <2> And I can truthfully say that the religious activities of the world, including the large activities and great big churches, are guilty of having cliques--little groups that are friends. They get together and one clique is played against another. This has caused disunity and inharmony down through the ages. I am convinced that what we call the sinister force, the negative force of the world, the rebellious force, the laggard force, the materialistic force, the communistic force--all of that is linked together in an armored column, as it were. It’s a contrast to the golden chain mail that the master talked about to insulate us from the psychic. <3> This is a sort of barbed wire fence that the human race have wrapped around themselves in their little groups so that every time anyone tries to break through from one way or the other they get cut on the barbed wire of human conduct. There is no question that this is not godly, and yet I’m also convinced that the world is caught in this no-man’s-land of oppression practiced against peoples. We are no exception to this. But I say we can be because the ascended masters, when they began to work with the Theosophical Society (and I’m going back to Madame Blavatsky), found that they had to cope with this problem in the release of spiritual truth to the world. And I’m going to tell you why. A Smear Campaign Intended to Destroy a Movement When the Theosophical Society began to bring forth the tremendous truths that they have, the established religious movements (that is, the orthodox) were naturally very much opposed--very much opposed--to the bringing in of these great truths. So they did the same thing that political candidates do. They began a smear campaign against Madame Blavatsky because she was a cigarette smoker, as you probably know, and she had other faults in her work. She was an excellent channel for the masters to use (they could get almost direct image contact from their thought to her thought), but she was not a perfect woman in her outer life. She had many faults. Therefore they attacked this woman, hoping to destroy the movement by attacking her personally. Well, they certainly did keep out a lot of people who were interested in it. And they certainly have ever since caused a certain amount of difficulty for the society. But they did not stop the society itself from growing and expanding and being somewhat the forerunner of many of the mystical groups in America. Even the I AM Activity, for example, has sprung from the society…. Comments on Criticism Part 2 …Constructive spiritual groups have always had a basic problem to cope with, and that is human nature. Human nature being what it is, is bound at some time or other to engage in some form of discordant manifestation. These things seem to come in waves. They come in periods. They’ll stop for a while and then they’ll start again. None of us really wants to be a part of it, and yet all of us at times may be brought into it. The main thing that we must recognize is that this discord is a destructive force that will never build up any movement so that it can go forward and do God’s work and God’s will. We must have perfect harmony or as nearly perfect harmony as we possibly can or else we will not succeed in our endeavors for God. Nor will we succeed personally in overcoming our own mistakes and errors. Now, I have often heard repeated the fact that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Certainly we hope that the staff and board of The Summit Lighthouse do not live in glass houses. And certainly this morning we are not throwing any stones at any person. We love unequivocally and without question every single member of this congregation. And we have a deep devotion to the supreme causes. We also believe that you yourself bear us an honest affection. However, every organization, either in its heart center or in those churches and organizations that are close to the heart center, is bound at some time or another to have individuals who might at one point have some personal feeling about something that is done by the staff or by the board. No one can please everyone, no matter how hard he tries. And yet our job and task is not so much to please you--that is, your human--as it is to please your immortal soul. And therefore we have dedicated ourselves to evolving and evoking from within you those responses that will mean in the schoolroom of this earth and in this activity that you will be making soul progress every single day of your life, rather than be moving backward. You don’t have to notice it. Djwal Kul in his Pearl of this week brings forth some tremendous things. It’s short but it’s packed with a lot of wonderful information. <1> Now, I’m coming back here to our own activity. It is time and half a time that I explained to this entire congregation some of the facts regarding the organization of The Summit Lighthouse that I thought you knew, but which apparently have not been realized. In my explanation, which I lovingly give, I hope to create the basis for future understanding so that we will never have any misunderstanding in the future. Therefore the first thing I want to tell you is that my telephone and my office are open to you all. Talk to Us: Our Door Has Always Been Open If ever you have any feeling of criticism or opinions of our services or anything that we do that you don’t like, I would far rather have you either call me on the phone or ask for an appointment to talk to me at some time or other. And I will be very happy to give you that time. Please do not talk to one another critically of anything that we do, whether you like it or whether you don’t like it. Even if you like it, I mean, you might be praising us so much that you’d make someone else jealous of us. You know what I mean by that? It’s best that you be enthusiastic about the work but just be careful. Talk to us. Tell us if you enjoy us. Tell us if you don’t. Our door has always been open. Therefore there is no excuse for anyone to have any feelings against us for longer than one day. And I don’t think it should even last a day. It should be settled each hour. You can get a hold of us. If you’ve got a problem, you tell us. I don’t think we’ve created any problem that’s major. And I hope we never have or never will. But you can always call us. You can always get in touch with us and we will give you an audience. We have not ever stopped any of you from coming to us and I hope we never will. Of course, if we got to where we had a million people in this city, why, that would be a different situation. Therefore I want to explain a point, however, that’s going to throw what I just said into a cocked hat, as Morya puts it. First of all, this organization is an oligarchy. You may have known this and you may not have known it. America is a democracy, but is it a democracy? It’s supposed to be a democracy in which the will of the people is done. The will of the people is a vacillating thing at best, because the people are swayed by television programs, by newspaper articles, by statistics and by statements. They’re molded and swayed by popularity and popular opinion, by a personality. This activity is designed to be above all personality; therefore it is an oligarchy. No group anywhere in the United States has a right to dictate the policies of The Summit Lighthouse, nor can I. The Catholic Church is an oligarchy, and you may as well know that also. In fact, most churches are also oligarchies. You cannot go to any of these churches and change their doctrines or tenets. Most of these churches are incorporated today under the laws of the land they live in. They are a corporation or they’re a charitable, eleemosynary, <*> nonprofit organization, as we are. Yet the people are not permitted to make the policies of the church, and I’m going to tell you why. First of all, the minute the people start making the policies of the church, the church is no longer divinely connected. I think you can see that. Naturally, any governing body, a board such as we have, an executive board of The Summit Lighthouse, will do all in their power to show forth kindness and understanding and to give audience to the views of the members. This supposedly the Catholic Church or any other church will do. You can make an appeal to a priest. You can make an appeal to a bishop. You can make an appeal to an archbishop, to a cardinal or to the pope himself in Catholicism. As I represent in this movement the highest office in this land, you can make an appeal to me or to Elizabeth or to our board in any matter. We will give it every consideration. But once we have given it consideration and ruled upon it, for that time it is closed. You have then no right to attempt to convert other people to some negative way of thinking, to extend your criticism further, to foment any form of dissension. This would be completely contrary to the laws of Christian brotherhood. Once you have made an appeal to us and made a suggestion, if we see fit to accept it and we do what you have asked, rejoice. If we do not, rejoice also. Because we will always take your suggestion to the master. And we will always do his will to the best of our ability. I am trying this morning to set up a future program that will make it possible for all of us to bask in the masters’ love to the fullest extent possible under divine law so that none of you will ever become involved in any problem that will in any way hinder you or the hierarchy from expressing the fullest light possible through the activity. I hope I’ve made myself clear. Is there anyone here that does not understand what an oligarchy is? Now, is there anyone that does not understand why it is necessary? Is there anyone here that does not understand why it is necessary to do this in a religious activity? Put up your hand if you do not understand it. I take it, then, seeing no hands, that you all do understand the need for this type of thing. Now, I have one more thing to say. I realize that regardless of the fact that it is an oligarchy, and regardless of the fact that we’re directly under the ascended masters’ ruling, naturally we can make a mistake. This is possible. We can only live up to the highest extent of our understanding and of the revelation that is given to us at any one time. But this is true of all religions. Terrible atrocities have been practiced by oligarchies in the past. And governments have practiced terrible atrocities against their people. Governments have been freed, we say, by the advent of democracy. Let us hope so. But Communism stamps its brand today upon the world, and the world is under the boot of Communism. America is supposedly free, and yet we know that we still do not have the perfect form of freedom manifesting. And our own government will admit that it is a very slow process to get justice in many ways in our country, yet it is the best hope that we have at present. The same, then, is true of the ascended masters. The ascended masters are perfect. As their chelas, Elizabeth and I and I’m sure our staff and your good selves, every one of you--we all do our very best to try to interpret the ascended masters’ teachings in our lives from day to day. Invariably, all of you and all of us at some time may make some error. If we do, we pay for that error and we learn by the bitter pill of experience. We ourselves are no exception to that rule. However, be that as it may, we shall continue to strive for the perfection in our worlds that we know you want in yours. Criticism from Devoted Members of the Organization Recently and for quite some period of time there has been some criticism that has come forth from some of the members in this organization right here in Washington, D.C. It was a small group of people. They are very devoted people and, I would like to say, people who have given us tremendous support, people that we love very dearly. And the matter is completely adjusted as far as we’re concerned and I know as far as they’re concerned, because they have given us their word that this is true of them. These are dear people. Their thoughts were certainly motivated by the desire to see us express the very best. And therefore I do not desire in any way to hurt them, because all of us have made errors. As Jesus said long ago, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” <2> So, it is not our intention, I repeat, to cast a stone. But I must- and the masters demanded it- read to you a communication from Master El Morya when he was apprised of this situation. <**> For one of the members here- and a very dear member- had decided to impart the criticism to us in the form of an epistle, or a letter, which was read by us. There were many matters touched upon and it was difficult for us to answer all of these matters because of the pressure of the work we’re doing at the present time. So, we had a conference with them and we have reached a brotherly understanding and a sisterly understanding. And divine love is now in the saddle, thank God. However, we did send the letter to the Darjeeling Council, and the Darjeeling Council acted upon the letter. You must understand that what they say in this letter was spoken by them before the matter was adjusted. However, they also sent us to contact personally the individuals involved. So, we talked with them. And I have no desire to bring personalities into this, this morning or even later. I’m not interested in that or in any form of vengeance. There is no need for vengeance because it was all done in good faith, you see. But it was an action of criticism. Criticism Always Involves the Sinister Force Now, the point is, it was constructive criticism in intent. But the Darjeeling Council has a view of constructive criticism and all types of criticism. A long time ago Master Morya, at the close of the alchemy course, <3> wrote a letter on criticism. When Morya wrote that letter, he thought he would end all criticism. <4> I want to explain to the staff here and I want to explain to our beloved members here that criticism, constructive or otherwise, if it could be done without involving the sinister force, without being seized by the opposition, might be all right. But it can never be done. And Master Morya has told me this himself. He said you can never bring about criticism against a person--and he meant never--without involving the sinister force, who sit like vultures on a line, like nine old vulture birds with their beaks sharpened. And they gaze down at the whole human race. And when they see any form of criticism coming, one of those birds flies down and seizes that morsel right there and starts an action. Now, I’m speaking very mystically but also very practically. El Morya’s Letter Is the Darjeeling Council’s Policy for The Summit Lighthouse Master Morya has explained this and this is what I am doing this morning. I am telling you this before we read the letter so that you will understand this letter. This letter is the Darjeeling Council’s future policy for The Summit Lighthouse. I want to see you free from this criticism as I want to see us free from any criticism of you. Not that we have had criticism of you--we have not criticized our members. But we could have, naturally, because no one is perfect. You can always find fault if you want to look for it. We would like to see this activity free at the heart center so that every person that comes in here from afar to our conferences will say, “These people are the most wonderful spiritual people you can find.” But why will they say that? Because when we are completely free of criticism, then the ascended masters’ currents can flow unimpeded through our world. We will not have any of the negation that flows in. You can’t handle negation, dear hearts. There’s not a single person that I can see in this room that is the master of all negation. None of you can handle it. I mean none of you if you release it the way Morya talks about it in this letter. Once you’ve invoked negation, it’s bound to act. And that’s why you simply don’t do it. Our beloved Elizabeth will read this letter and, if necessary, interpret and explain it. I want to tell you, dear hearts, this is a very important letter. I don’t think we should circulate this letter. We have made copies for everyone in this group who wants one. After the reading of it, so that you may study it at no cost, you may have a copy of this letter. And it’s a good one. It should be kept in the Washington group. Later on, some day, we may wish to bring it out. This is a very firm letter but it is very, very instructive. At the end of it, El Morya gives a piece of his great humor that you will want to listen to. It is so magnificent a piece of humor that I expect you probably will laugh. And I would rather have it end on a merry note than any other. Make of the Stones a Memorial unto God I want this Sunday to mark a note of progress for The Summit Lighthouse. Remember, every one of you does things that are not right. Every one of you makes mistakes. There’s none among you that can cast a stone at one another that one couldn’t be cast back at you. But let’s forget all the stones. Let’s put the stones there as a memorial this day unto God. And let’s move forward in this work so that when anyone comes in here, they’ll know just how great this group is--great singers, great musicians, great decreers, great lives. As President Johnson said, a great society. <5> And may we be a part of it. May we be vanguard leaders in a great society for our land, dedicated to freedom and the expansion of freedom for all nations. Thank you for your wonderful attention. An Open Letter from Beloved El Morya September 7, 1964 Even in the laws of our land it is said that ignorance is no excuse. We receive traffic fines for laws that we ignore. Those who live on earth today are subject to the laws of karma even though they do not know anything about karma or reembodiment or the sins they are committing. They are bound by their own mistakes, and the karma of those mistakes returns. Now, I hope that when I read El Morya’s letter there is no thought from anyone in the audience, “Oh, I didn’t know.” I hope you will all concede that you have known this, and that it is a review--a final review. El Morya’s Pearl of Wisdom called “A Report,” written in 1962, was on criticism. <1> I suggest that you all look into this Pearl. It is part of the body of knowledge which it is our duty to make our own and to live as supporters of the cause of the ascended masters. For until we make this knowledge our own, we cannot expect but that the masters will have to repeat the lessons that have already been taught. The masters have told us in many dictations this year and last year that they could not give us more advanced instruction because certain individuals in this sanctuary and some who have attended the conferences were holding back the instruction through some feeling or thought in their own worlds which had not advanced. Now, I think we can all take this admonishment to heart. For until our lives are pure hourly and daily and our full attention is upon God, we can all admit that at some time or another our consciousness has been less than in a positive state. But some of you will realize that you are more a part of this state a greater percentage of the time than you are standing for the light. And so I hope we will all work with Djwal Kul, whose Pearl this week is on introspection and assessment, delving into our own consciousness, our own selves, into the subconscious; examining our motives, our feelings and our acts; and praying for the transmutation of all that should not be--all those negative currents which steal our energies from the matrix that should be formed among us as one body of light-servers. <2> You know that any subconscious feelings of fear or criticism of any kind take part of the energy flowing from our mighty I AM Presence and therefore we cannot give our all. And so it would be my request to you today to go back to the teachings that you have already been given so that we may all go forward, the activity might go forward and the instruction shall be forthcoming which shall indeed set the entire planet free. These are the words of our beloved El Morya: An Open Letter from Beloved El Morya This letter is dictated to all who feel the need to give vent to that which they call “constructive criticism”: As Lord of the First Ray, I have had considerable experience down through the centuries with this form of energy. Let it be reiterated that thought requires energy. And when it takes the form of judgment of another’s acts, it is always an open door for the forces of negation to flow through the necessary rupture that results in the aura of the critic. As the light ray surcharged with criticism pierces the aura of the one transmitting the energy and aims directly at the one criticized, the tiny aperture that was created to release the arrow forms a rent in the critic’s own tube of light. In turn, this opening permits an inflow either of subtle seeds of doubt and mistrust of the motives of the one criticized (and this is somewhat a moot point since it is usually these qualities that are at the root of criticism in the first place) or of a blatant manifestation of vagabond, tarry substance that is overwhelming even to the critic himself. All of this energy, then, must be thrust aside and expurgated from the aura of the critic, for it is most uncomfortable. In a desire to expel this unwanted substance from the aura, the individual spews out through the aperture he has made in his own tube of light- where the not-so-radiant beam of criticism has passed- a flow of this substance that follows the trajectory of the arrow of criticism to the target mark of the one criticized. Let me point out, then, that this often develops into a form of spiritual warfare whereby the innocent become victims of a far greater measure of negatively qualified energy than was ever the intention of the originator thereof when the thought was first spawned in the brain and feelings of that individual. Criticism Finds Its Justification in the Ego It cannot be denied that the subtle serpentine-like qualities of this type of energy usually find justification in the ego of the one sending them out, so that in truth a form of self-righteousness and self-justification is assumed by the critic, somewhat in the mode portrayed by Mark Antony, who stated, “I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.” <3> I remind you, then, of Saint Peter’s words, “If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?” <4> When condemnation and judgment arise in human consciousness, it must always be recognized that the one who is the target of the energy also has a divine Presence as well as access to our octave of light. This is especially true if the individual is linked with us through some form of ordained service, such as a position of spiritual responsibility to the earth and its people. Although we admit that many of our servants have not always expressed the fullness of that perfection which we wish for them, we must also declare that many of us, before we were ascended, did make and mirror many minor errors for which the great Law in its mercy and tranquility did allow until in time, as experience patterns unfolded, we did come to a pure self-adjustment of our own accord. This always follows if the heart be pure and the motive divinely appointed. Do you think, O mankind who would assert some form of criticism of mankind’s dress or outer wearing of apparel, that this is a mountain to stand in the way of the service of the Christ? Do you think that men’s stereotyped social ideas concerning what is a right action for a religious service are binding upon the divine appointee for all time? How could progress ever manifest if no one were able to institute change, innovation or new approaches, especially if that one be appointed by God to do so? Let Critics Consider Whether the Fault Lies within Themselves Let them consider, when they do not derive the satisfactions they expect from religious service, whether the fault lies within themselves and their own consciousness, and then I think they will not be so ready to subvert others to their nefarious modes of criticism or to sustain a molehill concept until it becomes a mountain of negated affliction in their worlds. Now, I am seriously considering the suspending of two individuals (who have been outwardly associated with this activity for a few years) for a prescribed period of weeks or months in order to allow them time to ponder the great privilege that has been theirs, so that they may decide whether or not they wish to continue to submit themselves unto rule as authority derived from us. Authority in Spiritual Matters Is Derived from On High Beloved ones, in spiritual matters authority is not derived from the consent of the governed but from on high. And in spiritual orders, the lesser have always submitted to the rule of the greater. This is the concept of hierarchy and it is the divine right of spiritual initiation, which gives to mankind the rulership of many things when he is faithful in a few. We cannot confer authority upon those who do not first give obedience to the very authority they seek. For there is no other power but God, and his mandates are also our law. I would point out at the suggestion of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, that when individuals enter into a state of criticism they begin to encircle themselves with a tower of masonry, for each stone of criticism that they make becomes situated around about themselves. And the more their attention is placed upon it in concentration and sustaining that feeling over a period of months, perhaps even a year or longer, the more mortar is supplied to bind the bricks of criticism together and the higher the tower rises. By and by, this invisible but powerful tower becomes a landmark on the horizon, readily apparent to some but often not recognized even by the builder himself. Conspiracy Practiced in the Name of Justice Cannot Be Condoned Of all human roles, the role of the betrayer is deemed the worst by mankind. Conspiracy practiced in the name of justice where the avenues for redress have been so apparent as in this forthright and honest activity cannot be condoned by the Darjeeling Council. Our beloved messenger and his magnificent co-server, whose recent elevation into a joint office with him has made her role doubly important, have not practiced even what one could term a recommended aloofness from the student body of this activity, one and all. And because of the openness of their conduct, they have perhaps made themselves more vulnerable than had they chosen to conceal their personal lives from their confrères. We make our position clear here in the hope that the band of servers comprising the Washington sanctuary will recognize their rightful place in the hierarchical scheme. It has not been our intention that the local group should dictate the policies of this worldwide activity nor that any other individual group [do so], for we are directing a world action from our level. If this is to be toppled into a cocked hat by the altogether human action of criticism, condemnation and judgment, the very foundation that we have laid would be upset as by a giant upheaval and our whole structure would be unstable. We Vest Our Authority in Our Messenger We point out, therefore, that we have in the past and shall continue to vest our authority in our beloved messenger, who durst not himself issue forth a mandate without first receiving our approval. It is true that we have vested in his hands many matters of judgment where his own judgment and excellence have been proven, for this is the acumen of self-mastery that must eventually come about in all. Those who practice ascended master love and God-control enter into the authority of the ascended masters’ octave. And the superior intelligence of the universe functioning through them cuts them free in freedom’s name from all binding actions, even from those of the hierarchy itself. Guidance is only needed by the child until, in aspiring to higher initiations, he finds in that Christlike maturity of his being the answers to his many problems. I have hoped in every past release concerning the subject of criticism to end it all. And yet, if I were functioning in the human octave, I think my disappointment would be great. But I assure you that if you disapprove of the actions of our appointed leaders in your realm, we do not. And I refer most especially to their conduct and performance in the carrying out of our will to the best of their current ability under outer limitations and a constant bombardment of negative force carried in the world. I say, may all of you join with them not as insects to bite and sting I thank you.
1965 Great Divine Director releases a set of dictations concerning the presence of mechanization man, of biological robots upon the planet. Also explains the coming of the Laggards to the earth. *** Mother described on the tape of A Prayer Vigil for Lebanon, how she and Mark would sit for hours naming fallen ones so that they could be judged and possibly taken by the Lord and his hosts. Mark would get the names and Elizabeth would give the invocations. Of such things are Mantles gained. Periodically El Morya would place his diamond and spiritual momentums as pledges upon the altar for some purpose of service: “On one occasion, July 3, 1965, El Morya announced that a giant transformer of God’s will was being built in the etheric plane to “radiate out to the entire world the good will of Almighty God as an intense and divine holy purpose.” El Morya said, “I have taken out the large diamond which I wear in my turban and I have pledged it to the Lords of Creation, that I shall not wear it again until such a time as this activity of this forcefield of good will has accomplished at least 50 percent of the purpose for which it is brought into creation.” Thirteen years later, on June 24, 1978, El Morya announced that 50 percent of the purpose to which the transformer was brought forth had been fulfilled. He said, “The Lord God has returned to me the diamond that I had treasured, given to me by my own Guru....You have won for me another opportunity to place the momentum of my Causal Body upon the altar of humanity.” The Master also announced that he had established the transformer of God’s will congruent with the Ashram of the World Mother in the heart of Los Angeles: “There it shall accomplish, it is my prayer, the balance of its purpose, which is to reinfuse the cities of America and every nation with the momentum from the Great Divine Director’s Causal Body of God-government and the inner blueprint of life.” (See Morya: The Darjeeling Master Speaks to His Chelas, pp. 298, 301-2; 1978 PoW, pp. 297-99; and El Morya, July 4, 1978, on 90-min. audiocassette B7879.) On another occasion, March 24, 1974, against the backdrop of the Watergate investigations of political corruption, El Morya said: “My turban is flying high and I say, I will unroll it as the scroll and the spiral of that Light which God has given me as the diamond. And I place as collateral that diamond of his will upon the altar of God until America is free once again to breathe the fiery air of the Holy Spirit.” In a dictation given October 12, 1974, El Morya said, “I stand before you to pledge anew my Light and the diamond of my Light to Saint Germain, our commander of freedom.”
1969 DARK CYCLE BEGINS Karmic Board determines that there must be a checking of cycles of evil. Accelerated karma is intended to slow mankind from making more and more karma. The acceleration of karma will limit their freedom and force them to deal with their past sowings. The Dark Cycle had been put off and postponed several times, giving mankind opportunity to repent.
